Sri Lanka’s TM Asmeetha Semi and Malaysian Yu Tian Pouh wins the Under 8 Girls and Under 18 Open categories!
TM Asmeetha Semi of Sri Lanka won the CFSL Golden Jubilee under 8 years Chess Championship 2022 convincingly scoring full 7 points out of possible 7 games. Asmeetha played very well from the beginning, beat Sanulya Guruge, Chanumi Janulya, Kamandi Hirimuthugoda, Sasvindi Godakandage, B Pradekshs, Lohasna Jayaweera all 6 of Sri lanka and Indian Tvesha Jain of India to win the Gold Medal and the Championship.
Twesha Ashis Jain of India, lost to Asmeetha in round 6 but won all other six games with Senuli Siriwardena, Hasadi Sethumsa, Sayumi Seyensa, Dahami Liyanage, Yashvi Ponnamperuma, all of Sri Lanka and Senudi De Vass of Australia to score 6 points out of 7 games. She claimed the Silver Medal being runner up on better tie breaker after tying with tree more players.
Lohnsa Jayaweera, Oshini Gomes and Jenuvi Sahabandu also tied with Twesha with 6 points. Lohans won the Bronze Medal on her performance while Oshini and Jenuvi placed 4th and 5th according to the final rank. Lohansa beat Nuhansa Thammitarachchi, Thinuthi Wijethungaarachchi, Oshini Gomes, Himansika Abeysekara of Sri Lanka and Shruthika Anandkumar of India convincingly. Her only lost was to the runner up Twesha.
The top seed, Yu Tian Poh of Malaysia won the Under 18 years Category outright scoring 6 ½ points out of 7 games. Poh beat Malisha Weerathunga, ERsnadi Newansa, Alaina Vincent (India), Isara Banindu Dahanayake, Thimeth Alwela and Kosala Sandeep and drew his 3rd round game to Kusalvin Liyanage to win the Gold Medal. Thenuja Thimeth Alwela scored 5 ½ points and claim the Silver medal. Only losing to the winners he beat Sanutha Pesanjith, KG Wimalarathne, Alaina Vincent (India), Isara Banindu Dahanayake and Kosala Amarathunge while having a draw with Brijesh Saravanabhawan in the last round to reach the medal. Vincent Alaina of India after tying with 4 more players on 5 points managed to win the Bronze Medal having better tie breaker. Vincent beat Geenuka Gunaweera, Nethvindu Jayawardena, Malisha Weerathunga, Pamok Samaranayake and Haritha Hansan while losing two games to Yu and Alwela. Brijesh Saravanabhawan of Gateway College, Chenitha Mithvindu Ovitigala of , Esandi Newansa of Dharmasoka College and Kavishka Gimshan Kasiri of Asoka College also scored 5 points out of 7 games and place 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th according to the tie breaking scores.
The CFSL Golden Jubilee International Online Youth Championships 2022 conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka to mark the occasion of the 50th year anniversary to the Chess Federation is planned to have in 6 age groups, Under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 10 as Open and girls. It is open for any player under the relevant age group from all over the World. Few players from Australia, India and Malaysia participated in the Under 8 (Open & Girls), Under 16 Girls and Under 18 Open events completed so far.
The Events are planned to have in Tornelo Platform according to Swiss System in 7 rounds. If the number of players exceeds 100 in an event, 8 rounds are played and number is more than 150. 9 rounds will be played. The time control is 15 minutes per side with 10 seconds increments from the move one.
